Obituary for Mr. George Verlon "Mack" McEntyre

March 4, 1928 - November 16, 2021
Easley, South Carolina | Age 93

George Verlon "Mack" McEntyre
Easley, SC

George Verlon "Mack" McEntyre, 93, loving husband of Evelyn Bagwell McEntyre, for 73 years, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, November 16, 2021.

Born and raised in his beloved Newry Mill Community in Oconee County, SC, he was the only child of the late Roy and Pauline White McEntyre.

Mack began his 42 year textile management career with Woodside Mill, Easley. He later became affiliated with Southern Weaving, where he retired in 1992. He quickly decided retirement was not for him and began a "fun" second career with Sherwin Williams! He enjoyed delivering paint to commercial sites all over the upstate and found it so interesting. Suffice it to say, Mack was quite a character and never met a stranger.

Mack was an avid golfer and member of the first Board of Directors of Smithfield Country Club and never missed a "tee time." He loved sports of every kind and he played 3rd baseman in the textile league for the Easley Mill Sluggers. He loved pulling for the Easley Greenwave and he and Evelyn followed their Clemson Tigers near and far! He loved to hunt and fish with his son and grandsons. Mack was always active in local civic organizations, and was President of the Greenwave Booster's Club and President of the Lion's Club. He was a faithful, 65 year member of Easley First Baptist Church, where he attended the Marion Morehead Sunday School class and served on the usher team for many years.

In addition to his loving wife, Mack is survived by a son, Sammy McEntyre (Lesa) of Powdersville; daughters Kathy Campbell (Jimmy) of Easley, and Joyce Stokely (Morgan) of Columbia; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren who were all the apple of his eye!

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2021 in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home, downtown Easley.

The family would like to express a very special thank you to the entire staff of The Palmettos Assisted Living and National Health Care Mauldin for giving such tender love and care! Alice Green was a special caretaker, but more like friend to Mack, who offered such fun and entertainment for him.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Easley First Baptist Church "For Generations to Come" 300 East First Avenue Easley, SC 29642.
